About The Study

Introduction

“Dirge of Cerberus”, is a game based on Final Fantasy VII, it is unique in the sense that it is the first Final Fantasy game that is not a traditional role playing game. “Dirge of Cerberus” is the first, first person shooter game in the final fantasy collection. Because of the uniqueness of this game, summative usability study was conducted. The goals of usability testing include: Establishing a baseline of user performance, establishing and validating user performance measures and identifying potential design concerns to be addressed in order to improve the efficiency, productivity, and end‐user satisfaction for future game development.

Usability Tasks

Participants tested the functionality of the game, in its final version. Testing focuses on the menu system, mapping system and controller functionality. Each participant was given the same task to complete in the same order. Results will be used to evaluate the aspects of the Menu System, Heads Up Display, Map and Basic Actions.

Users are put into two categories, experienced users and inexperienced users. Experienced users are users who have played any of the final fantasy games before, and inexperinced users are users who have never played a game in the Final Fantasy series.
